Abbandonata la bottega di falegname paterna, frequenti dal 1864 l'Accademia di Belle Arti di Venezia, dove le lezioni impartitegli misero in luce le qualita innate di pittore, evidenziate in una delle sue opere maggiori La lezione di anatomia (1873). Nel 1878 compi un viaggio a Parigi insieme a Guglielmo Ciardi. Il viaggio fu determinante per l'evoluzione della sua arte, come tecnica e come soggetti (non solo scene di intimita familiare ma anche soggetti in costume settecentesco). Riscosse un ottimo successo, si fece conoscere a livello internazionale e assimilo una certa tendenza al manierismo. Del 1880 e l'opera Vandalismo, premiata a Brera, dove fu esposta ed e attualmente conservata. In queste opere l'artista si converti verso un'animazione realistica, un uso della coloristica controllato, un grande dispiego inventivo e una delicatezza tonale. Negli ultimi anni le opere del Favretto assunsero una sempre crescente luminosita ed una struttura sempre piu naturalistica. French Baroque Era Painter, 1686-1755 French painter. He was the principal animal painter and one of the foremost decorative painters during the first half of Louis XVs reign. After initial training as a portrait painter, he concentrated on still-lifes; by the 1720s he had also begun to establish himself as a specialist in hunting scenes, game-pieces and portraits of animals. He ran an active workshop, often keeping his best originals for years and selling copies and (more or less autograph) variants. In the 1730s he was most active as a tapestry designer, making numerous designs for the royal tapestry works of Beauvais and the Gobelins, and he continued to produce his brilliantly painted hunts, still-lifes and studies of animals and birds to the end of his career.

Alexander Adriaenssen
Flemish Baroque Era Painter, 1587-1661 Flemish painter. He was the son of the composer Emanuel Adriaenssen and brother to the painters Vincent Adriaenssen (1595-1675) and Niclaes Adriaenssen (1598-1648/9). In 1597 he was apprenticed to Artus van Laeck (d 1616) and in 1610 became a master in the painters' guild. In 1632 he took on Philips Milcx as apprentice, and in 1635 he painted the coats of arms of the 17 provinces on the triumphal arches in honour of the new governor. Adriaenssen's many signed and often dated oil paintings on wood and canvas are all still-lifes, mainly of food on tables with copper- and tinware, glass and pottery (e.g. Still-life with Fish, 1660; Amsterdam, Rijksmus.). There are four paintings of vases of flowers, but vases of flowers, as well as single flowers on the table, also appear in other still-life combinations. Only two canvases are known in which he worked with figure painters: a garland of flowers around a painting of the Holy Family (Ghent, Paul Boterdaele priv. col.) by Simon de Vos and a porcelain bowl of fruit beside a Virgin and Child (ex-Gal. 'Den Tijd', Antwerp, 1982) attributed to a follower of Rubens. His compositions are graceful and balanced but somewhat stereotyped, and they are bathed in a soft chiaroscuro.
